  JOLLY PHONICS

It is really challenging to teach English phonics to South Korean students. The conventional and systematic method of teaching letter sounds, short vowels, long vowels, double consonants, etc. doesn't seem to work well especially to the slow learners. I'm so glad that I found this book that would forever change and enhance my teaching skill.

Jolly Phonics can be taught from age 4 by parents and teachers alike. It is easy to teach and fun to learn. In just 1 year of teaching, my students' reading and spelling levels have drastically improved!

It teaches 42 letter sounds in 7 Phases (and progresses to Phase 13). It focuses on teaching students to write, blend, form and spell words while learning the letter sounds. It also has tricky words list (sight words) to help students learn words that doesn't fall on any category of the letter sounds. It comes with various books and other teaching materials, such as puppets, DVD, and CDs.

However, I haven't seen any Jolly Phonics ebook or other online learning system that can be accessed for homeschooling program during the COVID-19 pandemic aside from the Jolly e-readers which is available to download for free until 31st of May 2021 on Google Playstore and App Store. However, there are teaching resources to support parents and teachers available for download on their website.

Another drawback is the content of its books (Pupil and Workbook). They are too thin so there's not so much listening, sentence reading and writing practice available for kids that are essential for ESL/EFL students. So we made PPT, classroom activities and own worksheets to suffice what we think it lacks.
